Principal's Message April 2016

Posted in Principal's Message

Welcome back from Spring Break!  I hope you and your students had an enjoyable break.  Only 8 more weeks left of this school year.

Your classroom teacher should have contacted you already concerning eligibility for Extended School Year (ESY).  If you have not been contacted please contact your teacher or me at Jordan Valley.

Your teacher should also have discussed with you the dates of ESY this summer.  Traditionally we have had ESY spread out during three weeks of different parts of the summer.  About 1/2 the students would miss large portions of ESY due to summer conflicts.  Also because it was spread out through the summer we had a hard time staffing each week.  Also it was hard for students to start and stop three different times.  As you are well aware of transitions are hard for our students.

The main goal of ESY is the help students be at the same academic, language, social, and physical level when they start school mid August as they were at the start of June.  Therefore we are going to give our students a “boost” right before school starts mid August.  We will hopefully boost our students to the same level that they were at in June.  Since we will be going two straight weeks (including Fridays) there will be fewer transitions and hopefully a higher percentage of students will attend.  We also hope we will have better success staffing ESY.

Our dates for ESY will be August 2nd-5th and the 8th-12th from 8:30-11:30 in the morning.

Our regular school year will start August 24th.

Thank you for all you do for our students.
