March 14, 2025 – Minutes (Draft)

Agenda:

• Land Trust & TSSP

  • Plans are entered into the websites and submitted.

  • Students are thriving with the funds from both plans allowing more access to peers and community.

  • Land Trust this year will exhaust all funds

  • TSSP has more funds at this time of year than usual – diving deeper we realized that 2 classes had intense behaviors making it unsafe to go out which impacted the balance. We are purchasing materials for students to practice these tasks while on campus so they are still working towards the goal.

• Canyoneering Night (last night)

  • Represented JVS with a fun table for patrons to see

  • No one attended from our community

  • Feedback from community was that the topics are not relevant for families of JVS students and it’s difficult to go back out in the evening with their highly impacted students at home

• School Safety

  • Earthquake Drill next month

    • Will evacuate to the LDS church for practice

    • The ease of using backpacks to carry all the supplies for students is much better

  • Future planning

    • JUST STARTING THE CONVERSATION – looking for input about this:

    • Student Day – 9:30 – 3:00, M-F

      • same schedule EVERYDAY – no “early out”

    • Why shortened day?

      • It’s the best thing for kids

      • Kids are falling asleep in the afternoon

      • Kids are beating up staff

      • Seizures are abundant

      • Kids are getting home too late

      • ABA programs 3-4 hours into the evening after a long school day

    • Hope to

• Reduce # of seizures

• Reduce student nap taking

• Decrease aggressive behaviors

• Provide staff training, updates and retention

• Jana, Nancy & Shonni are willing to collect input from community

• Current Staffing Reports

  • Teacher vacancy

    • Hired 3 weeks ago 🙂

  • Teacher out on work injury for the remainder of the year

  • RBT out on work injury (past 6 weeks)

  • Continue to have 4 para vacancies, but have consistent subs filling these positions.
